Getting here.
14 Cort Adelers gate, 0254 Oslo. The museum sits on the inner harbour, between Oslo City Hall and Aker brygge — connected by tram, metro and a flat walk from anywhere in the centre.
By public transport.
Oslo's network is operated by Ruter. A single ticket costs 42 NOK and is valid across tram, metro, bus, ferry, and local train for one hour.
Tram 12 & 13
Stop: Aker brygge, two minutes' walk from the museum. Tram 12 runs from Majorstuen and Frogner; tram 13 from Bekkestua and Skøyen.
Metro / T-bane
Stop: Nationaltheatret. All five metro lines stop here. Four minutes' walk through the harbour park to the museum entrance.
Train from the airport
Flytoget (the airport express) and regional trains both stop at Nationaltheatret as well as Oslo S. Twenty minutes from Oslo Lufthavn (OSL).
Bus
Lines 31, 32 and 81 stop on Rådhusgata, three minutes from the museum. Night buses 1N–6N run from the same stop into the small hours.
By foot, bicycle or boat.
The museum is on a flat, walkable strip of the inner harbour — the most pleasant approach is on foot.
From Oslo S
Walk west along Karl Johans gate, past the Parliament and the National Theatre, then south through the park behind City Hall. Roughly seven minutes downhill.
From the Opera House
The harbour-side promenade runs unbroken from Bjørvika past the City Hall pier to the museum's eastern entrance. Five to six minutes on a dry day.
City bike
Two Oslo City Bike (Oslo Bysykkel) docks within sixty seconds of the museum: one on Cort Adelers gate itself, the other behind Aker brygge. Pass app required.
By boat
The summer ferry from Aker brygge to the Bygdøy peninsula stops three minutes' walk from the museum. Useful if you are pairing with the Viking Ship Museum or the Fram.
Parking and drop-off.
Oslo's centre is a low-emission zone with limited on-street parking. The Vestbanekvartalet underground garage sits directly under the museum, with lift access into the Forum on level 0. Hourly rates apply; electric chargers on level −2.
If you only need to drop off — taxi and rideshare drop-off is permitted on the eastern apron of Brynjulf Bulls plass for a maximum of three minutes.
Step-free, throughout.
The entire museum is step-free. Lifts connect every floor including the Light Hall and the underground parking. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters are available without charge from the cloakroom on the ground floor — first come, first served, with no advance booking.
Service dogs are welcome throughout. Audio-described and BSL-interpreted tours run on the second Saturday of every month — see the FAQ.
A note on the three entrances.
The building has three doors. The main entrance faces north onto Brynjulf Bulls plass and is the busiest. The eastern entrance faces the City Hall and tends to be quieter; it shares the same Forum once you are inside. The western entrance is reserved for groups and school visits during the morning, then opens to the general public from 1 PM onwards.
